But after that, the half was dominated by a solid Huddersfield team, hitting back with their own converted try immediately.

Their dominance was confirmed first half with two more tries won off Heaton Moor lineouts, Moor lads struggling to cope with the tenacity of their opponents and the strong running from their backs.

Their struggle wasn’t helped by a break in play for a freak injury to the excellent Dom Loftus who now must be a serious doubt for the Lancashire Cup Final in three weeks, and down by 19-7 at half-time.

After half time, Huddersfield’s authority on proceedings was franked further with two quick tries, the second particularly eye-catching with a great kick and chase over a seemingly lethargic Moor rearguard, extending the visitors lead to 31 points to seven just five minutes into the second half!

Suddenly, the Moor lads reacted. Driven by some good replacements in James Bellis and Connor Bailey, Bellis particularly excelling in a new second row role, the hosts finally got going.

The impressive Joe Kilbride pounced to narrow the gap before Asa Bottomley read a crossfield pass, intercepted and ran through to score.

Both conversions added, it was all Moor now. Connor Bailey then scored on his debut, Tenney’s excellent extras leaving the deficit at a mere three points.

But Huddersfield rose again, a brilliant try to give them what seemed a winning lead.

Enter Jono Glanfield with a match winning burst, twice crossing after some great forward momentum to give Heaton Moor an impressive, if flattering, victory by 42 points to 36.
