Dinosaurs are set to take over the town!

- BY HELEN WHITE @totallystockport

ONE of the aims of Stockport Business Improvement District’s team at Totally Stockport is to attract more people into the town centre, more often.

Last year, The BIG Day Out did just that; hundreds of people filled the Plaza, spilled onto St Peter’s Square, shopped in Merseyway and visited the first Makers Market to arrive in Stockport.

It’s going to be a totally packed town centre again when a Jurassic adventure - Dinosaur Takeover Day - hits Stockport.

Working with our partners at Merseyway, the Light cinema and the Makers Market, Stockport is set to go totally Jurassic as a herd of prehistoric reptiles gets ready to take giant steps into the centre of town for Dinosaur Takeover Day on June 9.

For 160 million years dinosaurs ruled the Earth and now they are back ready to strut their huge stubby toes around Redrock and Princes Street, Merseyway and Mersey Square and St Peter’s ‘Jurassic’ Square.

Over at Redrock, the Light cinema is giving dinosaur themed tote bags away throughout the day 10 bags every hour from 10am.

Packed full of fun and entertainment for all the family, Dinosaur Takeover Day is completely free for everyone and includes a dinosaur park complete with Jurassic jeep, walkabouts from tyrannosaurus rex, velociraptor and dino babies.

On stage to entertain the crowds with an exciting show will be children’s presenter Andy Day and the ever-popular colourful Trolls are back with their unique song and dance display.

The dinosaur grill will be serving tasty food to satisfy even dinosaur-sized appetites.

And as if all those walking dinosaurs isn’t enough, the film Jurassic World - Fallen Kingdom is showing at The Light cinema – visit the Light Cinema website for bookings and prices.

A dinosaur day out wouldn’t be complete without the Flintstones: Fred’s incredible stone wheeled ‘footmobile’ will be rolling around Mersey Square alongside the easier to navigate, and slightly more modern-day, rides of the kiddie’s fairground.

Dinosaurs won’t be patrolling the Market Place but you will find the Makers Market where over 50 stalls will be packed with something for everyone: a selection of unique creatives, creators, makers, designers, producers, bakers, musicians and artists.

You won’t want to miss out so find out more, including the full schedule of events for Dinosaur Takeover Day, by visiting http://www.totally stockport.co.uk/event/ totally-dinosaur-day/
