Juniors upbeat ahead of Final clash

- TERENCE MCGEEHAN

THE Junior Colts season comes to an end on Sunday when Heaton Moor take on Blackburn in the Lancashire Cup Final at Eccles RUFC in what promises to be an exciting tussle.

The teams have faced each other twice this season, on both occasions at Blackburn, one victory apiece as it stands.

Moor will have real confidence going into it after four excellent warm-up wins in recent weeks but they do have injury worries to withstand.

Forward Dominic Loftus will be a massive miss after injuring his ankle a few weeks back, his powerful trademark bursts would have been an immense asset.

There are also doubts over second row Evan Coffey but aside from that, will be able to field an extremely strong side and will do themselves and the club proud!

The pack have been exceptional this season, particularly Declan McGeehan, Max Savage and Jono Glanfield and laid the platform for skipper Nick Tenney and the influential Joe Kilbride to dominate games.

Blackburn also have a teak tough pack and will be extremely difficult to push aside but Moor will want, and perhaps expect, to at least break even creating the opportunities for Asa Bottomley and co to reap the rewards.

James Molloy’s loss at centre will be hugely felt but Heaton Moor have plenty of quality to call upon, the back division appearing to rediscover their mojo after an, at times, disappointing Conference League.

So, its down to one last big game for the season and a great opportunity for the Stockport lads to add to their Lancashire Development Cup victory in 2017.

All the best of luck to the lads and their committed coaching team of Chris Barrett, James Brennan and Nigel Glanfield.
