Police plea over CCTV footage of fence yobs

BRAZEN hooligans ripped out a fence panel and hurled it at a car - before flicking the Vs at a resident who confronted them.

A boy was caught on CCTV spinning around on the spot with the wooden panel before launching it towards the vehicle.

He then fled, along with half a dozen or so youths. The footage shows the group being confronted by a neighbour.

One of the boys – who helped drag the fence panel down the road – is seen gesturing at the woman and hurling abuse at her.

He appeared to stick two fingers up at the woman.

Residents on Bramwell Street in Offerton say they are fed up with troublecausing teenagers, who ‘don’t care’ about the consequences of their yobbish behaviour.

The owner of the car said he has been told it will cost £2,800 to repair the damage following the incident.

The man, who asked not to be named, said: “These kids have been causing trouble all year. The last couple of weeks have been chaos.

“That night they ripped the fence panel from a neighbour’s garden and threw it against my car.

“You can’t open the drivers’ door and the entire side of it is damaged.

“I’ve been quoted £2,800 to fix it. Why should I have to claim on my insurance for what they have done?”

He added: “It was my neighbour that called the police. She heard them and shouted at them and one of them gave her a load of abuse. They just don’t care.

“Kids hang around, we get that, I did it, but what I didn’t do was cause criminal damage.

“They’re so brazen about it. They don’t care if someone has seen them or if they get caught. It’s just so frustrating.”

A spokesman for GMP said officers were called at around 10.45pm on March 6 to reports of criminal damage.

They added: “Officers are reviewing CCTV and enquiries are ongoing.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting log number 2278 of March 6.
