ADOCTORS’ surgery which offers video consultations has been rated ‘outstanding’ for the second time.

Inspectors said they were impressed by a ‘trailblazing attitude’, including allowing patients to access GPs remotely via a video screen at Marple Cottage Surgery, in Marple, Stockport.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) also praised an initiative which allows patients to email doctors with any health concerns or questions, with the promise of a response within 24 hours.

Staff working for the government regulator were impressed with their ‘can do’ attitude and acting upon patient suggestions.

Prof Steve Field, the CQC’s chief inspector of GPs, said: “I cannot praise this practice too highly.

“It clearly benefits from strong leadership who have a vision and strategy to deliver patient-centred care.

“All of the staff should be very proud of the service they provide.

“Other practices should look to them as an example of how to provide great high-quality care.”

CQC inspectors look at five different areas – whether services are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led – and rates them.

In 10 of the 11 categories the government regulator assessed the practice as outstanding, it was rated good for caring.

They also grade the services offered to six specific population groups, for example patients with long-term conditions or children and families.

Johan Taylor, Marple Cottage practice manager, said: “I am so proud of the practice team as they work incredibly hard to provide the best service and care for our patients.

“We are passionate about developing general practice and will continue to work with our patients to improve.”

Nationally, around three per cent of practices receive the grading of outstanding.
