Centre campaign is up for an award
MERSEYWAY shopping centre’s community art and photography campaign, Celebrating Stockport, has been shortlisted in this year’s Purple Apple Marketing Awards.
The awards recognise effective shopping and town centre marketing.
Celebrating Stockport’s rich heritage and vibrant community through art, Merseyway’s Celebrating Stockport has been a year-long project which has been shortlisted in the awards’ ‘events’ category.
During the first part of the project, school pupils created silk paintings depicting Stockport past, present and future, including scenes showing historical buildings, natural landscapes and other popular local attractions.
These were used to create a heritage montage which now has a permanent home along the shopping centre’s outside staircase.
The second part was a community photography competition, in which professional and amateur photographers were invited to share photographs of the places and people they love most in Stockport. The winning entries were featuring in a pop-up exhibition.
Brendan Webb, centre manager at Merseyway, said: “Our inclusion in this shortlist is a great achievement for the centre.
“Merseyway is incredibly proud of its heritage and our Celebrating Stockport art project is a great testament to what can be achieved when working collaboratively with the local community.”
Paul Richards, director of development and regeneration at Stockport council, added: “Congratulations to the team at Merseyway. This is a fantastic achievement and I’m delighted that their work celebrating our town and the many things that make it so great have been recognised.
“Merseyway and Stockport are home to an ever-growing range of events and I’d encourage everyone to head down to our town centre and discover all these for themselves.”
The winner will be announced on May 10.
