Supporters Cooperative working hard to
LIFE for Supporters Groups, with the generally perilous state of the football clubs they exist to support is usually far from a bed of roses.
That said, things are about to get a whole lot worse, in fact a potential organisational nightmare is fast approaching in the form of HM Government’s New Data Protection Laws that come into force in May.
The Cooperative is alive to the difficulties that this new legislation brings with it and, like numerous similar organisations in the UK, is doing its best to minimise the problems likely to be caused.
The Stockport County Supporters’ Cooperative holds information on our supporters in order to inform them of matters of importance or general interest to the community e.g. events, membership information, AGM etc. The information we currently hold, apart from our members names is, an email address where appropriate, and/or a postal (usually for those members with no online access).
This information was originally voluntarily provided to us by our members on their original membership form, and is updated from time to time in response to information received from the member.
The new legislation makes it compulsory for organisations holding contact lists, to obtain written consent from those on it, to enable mail, be it on line or via the post, to be sent in the future.
Organisationally this is not helpful, but needs must and we have written to on line members requesting such a consent.
