ACHILD put innocent passengers at risk by kicking out the top window of a Stagecoach bus.

The youngster was caught on the bus’s CCTV vandalising the window as it travelled through Stockport last Monday morning, a Stagecoach spokeswoman said.

She said the driver of the 845 service to Romiley was not aware of the incident until he reached the depot.

The spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that a window was missing from the upper deck of our 845 service to Romiley as a result of vandalism by a young pupil travelling on one of our services.

“Having reviewed the CCTV footage, it is clear that the pupil forcibly removes the glass by repeatedly kicking the window. This incident has been passed on to the police.

“Passenger safety is our upmost priority at Stagecoach.”

Lorry driver Stephen Jenkins was driving along Marple Road in Offerton at about 7.30am when he saw the bus travelling in the opposite direction with a missing window.

He said he saw schoolchildren sitting on the top deck, dangerously close to the large gaping hole.

Stephen, who sent the Express dashcam footage of the bus, said: “I was driving along towards Stockport on Monday morning and I noticed the window was missing from this bus. It looked like it had incurred some sort of damage. If kids started poking their heads out the window, then it would have been dangerous.”

Police said officers are waiting to receive the CCTV footage of the incident so they can investigate what happened.

A spokesmwoman said: “At around 2.10pm on Monday, April 30, police were called to reports that the window of a bus had been smashed while travelling through Stockport.

“No-one was injured during the incident. Enquiries are ongoing and officers are waiting to receive CCTV footage.”
