STOCKPORT Golf Club enjoyed a memorable day as Equipment giant Callaway arrived in town for their Annual King of Swing event.
The tour pros in attendance were 2016 Ryder Cup star Thomas Pieters, seven-time European Tour winner Alvaro Quiros and Stockport’s very own David Horsey, himself a four-time European Tour winner. Also in attendance were long drive superstars Joe Miller – two-time World Long Drive champion – and Sweden’s Sandra Carlborg, the five-time and reigning Women’s World Long Drive champion.
Ninety-six golfers of various abilities from around the region were selected to participate in the day which included: individual coaching in driving, putting and bunker play as well as a long driving and nearest the pin competitions. Each team gained points throughout the day and the eight players in the winning team each received a custom fitted new Rogue Driver.
The annual event, that has previously taken place at St Andrews and The Belfry, is in it’s the fifth year and making its first appearance in the North West. Callaway’s Director of Marketing, Nick McInally, thanked Stockport Golf Club for their warm welcome and hospitality adding: “It’s been a superb day and the incredible yardage gains that we’ve seen have shown that golfers should definitely consider going Rogue.”
The day closed with a large crowd on the 16th tee in front of the Clubhouse watching the five stars hitting spectacular drives. Joe was the longest, but Sandra was alongside the tour players. Robert Lee from Sky Sports acted as compere and kept everybody entertained throughout the day.
