Viaduct is lit up to honour City star
MANCHESTER City star Phil Foden had his profile lit up on Stockport Viaduct last weekend – in homage to the local player’s roots.
The 17-year-old midfielder, who grew up in Edgeley, near to Stockport County FC’s ground, was honoured for his role in Manchester City’s title winning campaign.
He was one of a number of players who had their images projected onto landmarks in their home towns on Sunday.
The projections were lit up across 25 cities in three different continents as a special surprise for the victorious Blues. The players were shown the projections when they lifted up the trophy on Sunday, following their goalless draw with Huddersfield.
The locations chosen for the projections had a special meaning for each player – from the favela in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where Gabriel Jesus learnt to play, to the beach in Gran Canaria where David Silva honed his skills.
A projection of Nicolás Otamendi was also displayed at his family church in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The team celebrated winning the league at the Mayfield Depot on Sunday following the match against Huddersfield Town.
Foden was a boyhood supporter of Manchester City and joined the club at the age of eight. He got an academy scholarship in 2016.
Foden, who also plays for the England under 18s national team, won last year’s BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year.
