Fundraisin­g objective hits target for Gill

GILL Dawson was a busy Lady Captain at Disley Golf Club in 2017 and one of her objectives was to raise funds for her chosen charity – The Alzheimers Society.

She was delighted to be able to present a cheque for £1,000 to Stephanie Larkin from the Alzheimers Society

Gill said: “The main fundraiser­s were a Charity Day which raised funds for my charity and the Captain’s and President’s charities.

“Over £100 was raised from the sale of cards made by Bi Suk Knowles and I also had a charity bunker on the 17th hole.

“I chose the Alzheimers Society because both my mother and an aunt were badly affected by the disease so I know how cruel an illness it can be.”

PA singles Stableford for Disley ladies was won at a canter by Leigh Duffy with a magnificen­t 41 points taking her well clear of Anne Booth 33, Debbie Eyre 32 and Jane Byatte 31.

Disley’s men played for the Senior Shield and George Mitchell was top of the shop with 40 points from Alan Henry 38, Paul Sturgess 37 and Richard Clayton 36.

The April medal and Shanghai qualifier at Disley had the divisions topped by Paul Holtom after a cpo on 67 with John Clamp, Tom Booth 69 and Wilf Wragg 69.

MoorendGol­f Driving Range’s new PGA profession­al Jamie Storey was delighted with the response to his inaugural ladies night with the aim of attracting new ladies into golf being more than achieved.

Jamie said: “The night was a huge success and we had 23 ladies down at Moorend, which is on the border of Woodford and Bramhall enjoying a great time.

“All the ladies liked the new coffee shop and ladies golf store and are looking forward to joining us for our ladies group coaching classes which start in May.”

Romiley juniors played round one of their Summer OoM and it was won by Clark Thompson with 41 points from Alex Jones 40 and Brook Snape 38.

A singles Bogey for Romiley’s men was won by Brad Snape after a cpo on +2 from Chris Frost with John Walker next in with +1.

Romiley Ladies played their Coronation Cup Foursomes qualifier and it was won by Janet Worthingto­n and Audrey Jones on 72.5 from Sharon Dineen and Louise Meeks 77 and Denise Booth and Carolyn Brinsley 77.5.

Cheadle ladies played their Spring Meeting and first past the post was Sarah Huxley after a cpo on 77 with Bernadette Davidson, one less than Susan Shaw.

The nerves were jangling for Cheadle’s men in division one as they played a medal for the Eastwood Trophy with a cpo on 62 being won by Stephen Abrahams from David Ashworth, David Griffiths and Matt Withers.

No problems in division two for Stephen Southam as he posted 63 to finish five shots clear of Jonathan Dada, Barry Borgen, Chris Booth and John Hornbuckle.

The monthly medal at Gatley needed a cpo on 70 to see Matthew Milnes top division one from Scott Keelan, In division two Mike Coffey led in with 69 from Joseph Faulkner 71.

The Danny Williams Trophy at Heaton Moor was won by Mark Reid with 41 points from Peter Milner 39.

New Mills men opened their season with a medal and in division one Tony Jennison was top of the shop with 67 from Jake Unsworth 68 and David Harrabin and David McCartney, both 70.

Division two honours went to Michael Deauville with 63 ahead of Neil Hyde 64 and Mike Bennett 66.

Singles Stableford action for Mellor and Townscliff­e ladies saw Kay Conway in unstoppabl­e form posting 43 points, ten more than Lesley Howarth and Eileen Lewis.

It was much closer for M and T’s men in division one of a singles Stableford with a cpo on 39 points going in favour of Ian Palmer from Jonathan Coverley and Phil Crosthwait­e.

Terence Bebbington was a clear winner in division two with 41 points taking him clear of Danny Jameson 39 and P Fotheringh­am 38.
