Gran on mission to find her ’angel’ after ordeal

-

A GRANDMOTHER who spent a month in hospital after falling over outside a bank is searching for the kind-hearted Samaritan who came to her rescue.

Christine Dunn, from Cheadle Hulme, described her mystery saviour as ‘the angel who came out of nowhere.’ The 72-year-old now hopes to track the woman down to thank her in person.

Christine suffered a broken hip after falling outside the Royal Bank of Scotland in Cheadle Hulme and needed surgery.

It was a cold day and the grandmother-of-five lay on the pavement for an hour while she waited for an ambulance to arrive.

“The woman was an absolute godsend,” said Christine. “She was so nice. She came and sat on the pavement with me, it was very cold.

“She didn’t panic at all and kept me and my husband calm, reassuring us. Luckily for us, a fire engine went past while we were waiting for an ambulance and it stopped and turned around and out came these five burly firefighters who helped too, putting their jackets over me.

“People went into the bank and came out with blankets and coats to put over me as well and keep me warm. The lady stayed with me on the floor the whole time, she was such a big help.”

Christine was taken to Stepping Hill Hospital and underwent surgery on her broken hip. She was in hospital from March 26 to April 26.

“When I got out of hospital I said to my family that I wanted to get in touch with this lady,” said Christine.

“I thought I’d given her my phone number but I didn’t hear from her so she may have taken it down wrong. I’d love to be able to find her and say a proper thank you.”

Christine believes the lady may have been called Irene or Maureen.

She added: “One minute she wasn’t there and the next she was sat talking to us. She was like an angel that came out of nowhere.”
