Council cabinet line-up revealed after elections

STOCKPORT’S leading Labour group has revealed its cabinet line-up for 2018/19.

Heatons North councillor Alex Ganotis continues as the portfolio holder for finance and leader of the council, with cabinet member for adult social care, Wendy Wild, as deputy leader.

Edgeley and Cheadle Heath councillor Sheila Bailey will remain cabinet member for communitie­s and housing.

Reddish North councillor Kate Butler will keep hold of the economy and regenerati­on portfolio, while Heatons South councillor Dean Fitzpatric­k remains in charge of education.

There will be one new face to join the executive – Davenport and Cale Green councillor Elise Wilson will replace Heatons North councillor David Sedgwick and take charge of reform and governance.

Heatons South councillor Colin Foster will remain portfolio holder for children and family, and Tom McGee will oversee health.

The changes took effect after the annual council meeting yesterday (May 22), when the new mayor Walter Brett, Labour councillor for Reddish South, was ushered in.

Bredbury Green and Romiley councillor Lisa Smart was announced as the deputy mayor.

In addition, the Liberal Democrat leader is Cheadle Hulme and South councillor Mark Hunter, while the Conservati­ve party leader is Bredbury Green and Romiley councillor Syd Lloyd.

Independen­t Ratepayers leader is Heald Green councillor Adrian Knottingha­m.

Following the recent elections the council political makeup is Labour hold 24 seats; Liberal Democrats 21; Conservati­ves 13; Independen­t Ratepayers 3 and Independen­t 1.

However, the vacancy for the Edgeley and Cheadle Heath ward seat is due to be contested tomorrow, May 24.

Labour’s Philip Harding will be defending his seat, while UKIP member Peter Behan will stand for election.

Also hoping to take the seat are Liberal Democrat Oliver Harrison, Conservati­ve candidate Pat Leck and Green Party member Camilla Luff.
