Compstall fall short in run chase

AFTER a week of sunshine it was more of the same for the Derbyshire and Cheshire Cricket League with large totals expected

Division One Mottram travelled to Hayfield and having elected to bat posted 244-7 thanks to Ryan Fitton with 45 and Jordan Irons 93 while Anthony Ebbrell took 3-53 and Gareth Davies took four catches.

Oliver Andrew then took 5-46 as Hayfield struggled to 139 all out.

Tintwistle chose to bat at Dove Holes and were 157-9 after their 45 overs, Karl Handforth with 57 and James Pool not out on 41 as S Critchlow took 4-37 and Dave Cartledge 3-44.

Dove Holes then struggled with the reply as Ryan Nixon took 4-30 in a total of 112 all out.

Broadbotto­m travelled to Dinting and chose to bat with Ryan Welsh hitting 100 and M Orpen 58 as Mark Stringer took 3-40.

M Parker then struck 68 but R Blythe took 3-36 and Chris Cheetham Roberts 3-36 as Dinting were all out for 176.

In Division Two, Buxworth amassed 360-6 batting first at home to Compstall, Dan Gilbride with 75, Joe Hall 53, Chris Reynolds 56 not out and Alan Reynolds 48 as Frazer Heginbotha­m took 3-64.

Dylan Heginbotha­m then hit 60 and P Giannassi 49 but Joe Hall took 3-61 and Mark Drabble 5-45 as Compstall could only manage 221 all out.

Bewton chose to bat as they hosted Old Glossop and were 198 all out, G Johnson with 62 and A Turner 31 while P Littlewood took 4-14 and Lenny Allsopp 4-45.

Littlewood then hit 62 bit J Cragg took 3-22 to help limit Old Glossop to 177 all out. New Mills posted 181-7 batting first at home to Hadfield, J Cooper with 43 and A Boardman 37.

Liam Doyle scored 77 and Rick Tranter 32 for the visitors, but Tom Boardman took 4-25 and Dave Ward 4-25 with a hat-trick with the last three balls of the innings as the visitors lost six wickets for eight runs to end 178 all out.

Hazel Grove slumped to 46 all out at home to Whaley Bridge, Eddie Ford taking 5-20 and Dale Jones 3-8.

Whaley then lost three wickets in their short chase, with the game failing to reach the second 45 overs.

Division Three Offerton were 112 all out batting first at Chapel, C Beal taking 4-13 and Nick Smith 4-29.

It proved to be enough though as A Davies took 6-39 with Chapel 97 all out.

It was a high scoring game at High Lane where Pott Shrigley made 251-6, A Clarke with 34, R Andersonfi­tton 99 and P Cocks 40 not out as R Manion took 3-51.

High Lane made a good fist of the chase with Johnny Marshall hitting 30 and Mannion an unbeaten 88 but R Anderson Fitton took 6-64 as High Lane were all out for 221.

Division Four Broadbotto­m were 190-9 as they entertaine­d New Mills, Joe Brotherton with 31 and Jim Brotherton 51 as I Ahmed took 3-50 and Jack Hadfield 3-40. Conor Hurfurt then took 3-20 and Joe Riley 4-43 including a hat-trick as New Mills were bowled out for 141.

Woodley made 208-7 at Hawk Green, B Qasim with 71 and Jack Trowsdale 55 as George Ridings took 3-50.

Craig Young then hit 43 and C Head 30 but T Hotson took 4-42 and Will Adam 3-28 as Hawk Green stumbled to 137 all out.

In Division Five, Hazel Grove were 140 all out batting first at Staly St Pauls, Mark Baker not out on 59 with A Kantara taking 5-14. Staly then slumped to 83 all out, Graeme Butcher and Charlie Higson both taking 3-13.
