Awards success

JASON Oswell was named County’s Player of the Season at the club’s annual award’s dinner. The 29-goal hitman narrowly pipped strike partner Matty Warburton to the top prize.

But Warburton also left Edgeley Park clutching some silverware after winning the Goal of the Season award for his stunning free-kick against Curzon Ashton.

Dan Cowan’s 25-yarder against Darlington was voted as the runner-up.

George West received the Community Foundation Recognition Award for 2018, and was presented with his trophy by community manager Dave Wardle.

Defender Scott Duxbury needed some help to carry home his haul of trophies after comfortably winning two Young Player of the Year awards, with Jimmy Ball coming second.

County Director Steve Bellis hosted the auction, raising more than £1000, helped by two signed lots donated by Stockport band Blossoms, courtesy of John Fitzpatrick from Help the Hatters.

Manager Jim Gannon also brought along the Fair Play Award which he collected at the National Game Awards held at Stamford Bridge earlier this week.

Gannon said: “It’s a great achievement. I set the principles but the players have been acting like very good professionals and very good people.

“Ever since I did my Pro Licence, I’ve always wanted to play the game in a certain way and respect the standards of football.”

Gary Burton also spoke at the event to thank the fans, sponsors, staff, volunteers and players for their support during 2017/18.

Special thanks to Joanne Petch, Managing Director of Entertainment Today, for dressing the room ahead of last night’s glittering event.
