AGROUP of friends are on a mammoth fundraising mission after one of them lost their mum to cancer.

Elaine Clayton, of Offerton, sadly died in September last year and daughters Nicola Fletcher and Joanne Petch are spearheading a money-raising drive in her memory.

Nicola and her friends – and friends’ children – have already taken part in 5km Race for Life at Woodbank Park, which is the first of several events planned for 2018.

Others include a World Cup party fundraiser, a clothes swap party and a quiz night - all in the name of Cancer Research UK.

Nicola, 34, said: “Losing mum has been the single hardest thing to happen to me.

“This time, more than ever, I have needed my amazing friends and when I heard they wanted to pledge to a year of fundraising I was very touched.

“Their support has been incredible. We will laugh, cry and remember Mum together raising money for two fantastic causes along the way.”

Joanne and her pals have been raising money with a skydive for St Ann’s Hospice and will take part in the Pretty Muddy event at Tatton Park in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Joanne, 31, said: “In September last year my world fell apart when I lost my amazing, beautiful, caring mum.

“She was diagnosed with cancer less than a year before.

“She was unbelievably brave throughout it all and fought whatever the cancer threw at her, never letting it get her down.

“We created some amazing memories over her last few months; she was there to share my wedding day and got to meet her first grandson, Jack, which are memories I will cherish forever.

“I couldn’t have made it through it all without my best friends.

“So who better to have by my side to conquer Pretty Muddy.”
