Woodley ease to Dinting triumph

ANOTHER full round of fixtures went ahead with some huge scores post around the Derbyshire & Cheshire Cricket League.

In Division 1, Dinting elected to bat at Woodley and could only manage 121-9, D Stringer with 33 as Paul Turner took 3-23 and Conor Cranwell 4-15. Danny Kay then finished 47 not out and Paul Turner 40 not out as Woodley eased to 122-3.

Division 2 Buxworth were all out for 147 atting first at home to New Mills, S Leatherbar­row hitting 51 as M Birchenall took 3-13.

Callum Firth then made 69 as New Mills reached their target for the loss of four wickets.

Compstall hit 250-4 batting first at Whaley Bridge, B Heginbotha­m (63) and D Heginbotha­m (57) finishing unbeaten following on from Sam Messih (41) M Gosnall (31) and Josh Webb (37).

D Ryan then hit 70 and I Heathcote 30 but D Heginbotha­m took 4-39, J Webb 3-37 and Sam Messih 3-6 to reduce Whaley Bridge to 166 all out.

Old Glossop elected to bat as they entertaine­d Hazel Grove and scored 229-8, Jonny Wright with 69, J Sagar 33 and S Alcock 46 as Jarrod Dennis took 4-49. Hazel Grove were never quite up with the rate as they closed 20 short on 209-9, Lee Sykes making 37 as J Wright took 3-43.

Hollingwor­th hit 181-8 batting first at Offerton in Division 3, Mike Knight making 44 and Sean Morris 31 as A Dar took 3-38. M Utting then hit 30 but P Sheikh took 6-30 to see Offerton all out for 108.

Division 4 Woodley got the better of a high scoring game at New Mills, the visitors hitting 255-7 thanks to Jack Trowsdale (42) and H Rippon (116 not out).

New Mills came up just short on 212-9, A Burgess with 37 and Jack Hadfield 44 not out while T Hotson took 3-36 and Jack O’Malley 5-34.

Hazel Grove slumped to 63 all out in Division 5 after choosing to bat against Old Glossop, D Acomb taking 3-13 and Ivan Twist 3-25.

D Donnely was then 49 not out as Old Glossop completed a 9 wicket win.

Compstall posted 160-8 at Staly St Pauls, Ravi Patel with 87 whilst A Hayat took 4-55. S Nock then scored 43 and J Elliott a maiden half-century with 52 not out as Staly recorded a seven-wicket win.

In Division 6 Hollingwor­th were asked to bat by visiting Offerton and closed on 203 all out, A Halliday with 100 and S Lee 39.

U Whahid then scored a 100 of his own and S Kirkham 30 as Offerton won by just one wicket in a tense finish at 205-9.

Meanwhile, sixteen became eight as the clubs of Derbyshire & Cheshire Cricket League played their second round Glossop Glass & Glazing Bissenden Cup Fixtures

Compstall entertaine­d New Mills and after winning the toss elected to bat, going on to score 267-5, David Bailey with 72, Sam Messih 39, Paul Gianassi 79 and Dylan Heginbotha­m 41. Heginbotha­m then took 4-25 and Josh Webb held 3 catches as New Mills slumped to 119 all out.

Dove Holes won the toss at Hazel Grove and were bowled out for 157, Tom Forder top scoring with 57 as Dominic Nunn took 4-17. Jarrod Dennis then made 58 but 3-26 from S Critchlow eventually saw Grove all out 8 run short on 151.

Hollingwor­th chose to bat first as they entertaine­d Charleswor­th, posting 170-9 with Josh Smith hitting 32, Mike Knight 40 and Dec McNee 35 as S Gilham took 3-31 and M Bardsley 4-22. Gaz Evans then scored 40 and Nick Bennett 41 as Charleswor­th eased to 172-4.

There was a thriller at the Speedwell Cricket Ground, where Tintwistle entertaine­d Broadbotto­m, the visitors opting to bat and setting 162-6 from their 40 overs with J Dodd making 64 as M Robinson took 3-35. Tintwistle had just two balls remaining when they passed their target, reaching 166-7 thanks to 44 from AJ Harris and 37 from S Charnley while Chris CheethamRo­berts took 3-29.

Dinting, Newton Hawk Green and Woodley all progressed as their opponents conceded.

The league’s T20 competitio­n has expanded for 2018 and welcomes for the first time a club from outside the current DCCL membership.

In Pool A Dove Holes won the toss at Buxworth and elected to bat, going on to smash a monstrous 280-3 thaks to Dan Jones with 45, Joe Gregory’s 30, Jack Gregory with 76 and A Critchlow an unbeaten 95. Joe Hall (34) was the only one to trouble the scorers for Buxworth as they stuttered to 88 all out.

Pott Shrigley were asked to bat first by visiting Chapel and posted 134-9, T Fletcher with 32 and Ryan Anderson-Fitter 46 as John Theyer took 4-22. In reply Keith Hallam hit 48 and J Hawtin 30 not out as Chapel secured a 6 wicket win.

Pool B Compstall entertaine­d Prestbury and elected to bat, scoring 184-4 from their 20 overs, Sam Messih with 95 not out and Dylan Heginbotha­m 30. S Burnell then hit 66 and M CowleyJone­s 36 but Prestbury closed 20 short on 164-6.

High Lane batted first at home to Hazel Grove and were all out for 118, Steve Regan hitting 30 as Jarrod Dennis took 3-5 and Ian Halford 3-7. Dennis then hit a quickfire 40 to help the Grove to 123-6 despite 3-23 from Mike McCarthy.

Woodley took first knock at Stalybridg­e in Pool C, posting 154-8, C Cranwell unbeaten on 35. Stalybridg­e struggled in reply, T Hotson taking 3-8 and Cranwell 4-17 with the home side collapsing to 104 all out.

Mottram elected to bat at Broadbotto­m in the game of the night in many peoples eyes, scoring a superb 189-8, A Metcalfe making 84 while D Perrin took 4-15. Chris Cheetham-Roberts then hit 33 with L Dawson (37) and J Dodd (39) both unbeaten but Liam Wright took 4-33 to help restrict the home side to 170-6.

Hayfield batted first at home to Dinting in Pool D and were 181-6 after 20 overs, Russ Evans with 46 and H Poggonpoel 72 as Rudolph Liebenberg took 3-43 and M Parker bagged 3 catches. Dinting struggled in reply, limping to 129-8, T Wyche top scoring with 37 and Peter Hills 33 not out as Anthony Ebbrell took 3-15.

Hadfield continued the trend of electing to bat and scored 200-9 against visiting Hollingwor­th, Liam Doyle with 41, Alex Ball 48 and Jonny Tranter 32. J Smith then hit 35 for Hollingwor­th in their 145-9.
