Six surgeries in for award
AHEALTHY half a dozen GP practices in Stockport have been nominated for the national title of surgery of the year.
Of the thousands of surgeries across the UK a total of 81 have been shortlisted in this category, which is part of the General Practice Awards.
It is based on public nominations and now there is a similar vote to see who progresses further in the competition.
The six to have been shortlisted include Adswood Road Surgery (choice three for voting purposes), Adswood, Alvanley Family Practice (choice four), Woodley and Beech House Medical Practice (choice 10) in Hazel Grove.
Others are Bracondale Medical Centre (12), Heaviley, The Village Surgery (77), in Bramhall and Woodley Village Surgery (82).
Dr Ranjit Gill, from Stockport NHS Clinical Commissioning Group, said “We should be rightly proud of this achievement by our surgeries but I’m not at all surprised.
“Practices in Stockport continually strive to offer the best possible service to their patients and that hard work doesn’t go unnoticed. Our practices regularly get great feedback from their patients.
“If your practice has been nominated then please vote for them and let the rest of the country see the work being done here in Stockport.”
It is the first year there has been a people’s choice category in the awards, brought in to commemorate the NHS’s 70th birthday in 2018.
Voting is now open and closes on August 10 with a narrower shortlist being announced by competition organisers on September 3.
Dr Gill added: “Unlike the other awards, the people’s choice award is the only one to offer the public the chance to give their thanks and show appreciation for their healthcare team.”
People can vote online via the General Practice Awards website at www. generalpracticeawards.com/the-awards/peopleschoice-award/.
Or by texting CHOICE+ the number of the practice to 60777.
