CONSERVATIVE Party chairman Brandon Lewis and MP Mary Robinson were shown the progress made in building a new primary and secondary school in Cheadle.

Brandon and Mary were guided around the site by Linda Magrath, CEO of the Laurus Trust, the organisation which will run the schools – Cheadle Hulme Primary School and Laurus Cheadle Hulme.

Gill Theobold, head of school designate for Laurus Cheadle Hulme, joined them on the tour.

Construction for the schools began in December 2017 and they and a 26-place nursery are set to open in September this year, with some construction work continuing into early 2019.

When full, Cheadle Hulme Primary School will have 420 pupils and Laurus Cheadle Hulme will have 1,050 secondary school pupils.

Gill said: “We are thrilled to share the progress of the new Laurus Schools in Cheadle Hulme with Mary Robinson and Brandon Lewis. We are so lucky to have a fabulous view over Bruntwood Park for our students.”

Brandon said: “It was great to see these new schools which are being built in Cheadle and meet the fantastic, dedicated staff who will be working here.

“It’s a real credit to everyone who has been involved and I wish them all the best for the future.”

Mary said: “As MP for Cheadle I will do everything I can to promote top quality education for children in our area.

“I was delighted to be able to visit the building site of what are set to be two great new schools and I look forward to seeing both thrive once they open their doors.”
