Highs and lows in Tim’s Vale triumph

THE Wednesday Section medal at Reddish Vale saw Tim Crampton go through a range of emotions

His eight-iron tee shot on the154-yard par three fourth kicked off the left bank and into the hole for an ace to set up a terrific round and he also won half the ‘Twos’ pot for a single stroke!

Tim kept up the momentum going to the 17th tee on level par gross and finishing on two pars would have seen him return a nett 57!

But at this time things went a little bell-up and he finished with a nett 67 – still enough to top division two and set up plenty of celebratio­ns at the 19th.

The other divisional winners were Mike Radcliffe 65 and Alan Booth 69.

The latest monthly medal at Reddish saw the divisions topped by Andrew Covell 70, Jack Schofield after a cpo on 68 with Stewart Flint, Fred Worhtingto­n and Chris Connolly and Ken Whitlow 67.

Jeanette Kinder was in good form for Vale’s ladies winning a singles Stableford with 30 points then a medal with 77 with Fiona Andrew taking top spot in the 9-hole Stableford with 12 points.

Jeanette teamed up with Mal Woodcock to make it a hat-trick by winning the Coronation Foursomes.

The H Wood Trophy at Avro was won by Peter Meadowcrof­t with 68, a massive seven shots better than Stephen Callaghan and Michael Thornber.

He then made it a double by winning the Away Day at Marple with 39 points, three more than Bob Collins.

A Midweek Stableford at Avro saw Neil Flood in charge with 31 points, one more than Derek Ellershaw, Philip Oakes and Kevin Moore.

Peter Walker posted a neat 68 to win the Avro Vice Captain’s Trophy, two less than Peter Roles and Paul Johnson.

The June medal at Bramall Park had the divisions topped by Jonathan Griffin 66, Richard Joynson after a cpo on 71 with John Paget, Steven Head, Nick Cook and David Kelly and Mark Davies 67.

Park’s ladies were also in medal mode with the divisions topped by Judy Read 70, Nicola Williams with a sizzling 64 and Elaine Curwen 70.

A singles Stableford for Bramhall’s men had division one won by David Eadsforth after a cpo on 41 points with Pat Shaw.

Top of division two was Sean Ring with 42 points, five more than Richard Ellis.

Bramhall Ladies played a singles Stableford in four divisions supporting the England Golf Trust and top of the divisions were Claire Fitzpatric­k 40 points, Judith Hill 36, Lady Captain Sandra Smith 38 and Wendy Woodhead 43.

Marple’s men played a singles Stableford and top of division one was Keith Sumner with 38 points, one more than Simon Redman, Jeff Crowder and Cornelius Musonda.

In division two Stuart Needham won a cpo on 36 points from John Mills.

In a medal at Marple the divisions were won by Cornelius Musonda after a cpo on 64 with Jeff Crowder and Robert Wilkinson 67.

Marple ladies played for the Edith Parrott prize and it was won by Elizabeth Pierce with 38 points from Sue Chapman 37 and Elaine Jones and Sheila Leigh, both 35.

Houldswort­h’s men played a ‘major’ medal for the Eddie Mannion Trophy and it was won by Steve Richardson with 66 from Mark Adams 68 and Luke Barton 69.

Medal action for Houldswort­h ladies had Anne Marie Banks first past the post with 80 from Doreen Hall 81.

Stockport ladies played for the Jean Turner Friendship Trophy and Alison Booth was a delighted winner with 37 points, two more than Moira Konarski and Mary Williams, both 35.

Stockport’s men played over 36 holes in the Spring medal and setting the early pace was club legend Ian Gemmell with 69 from Rob MacKinnon 70.

In round two Jonathan Tune won a cpo on 74 from Andrew Mooney but the overall winner was Ian Gemmell with 149 from Neil Everest 150.

The second round of the Whit Trophy at Hazel Grove had an outstandin­g winner in James Johnson who posted a stunning 58, ten shots less than Ben Greenall.

The Bancroft Trophy at Grove was won by Bryan Jobling with 41 points, two more than Brian Dalton.

Grove’s ladies were in medal mode with Viv Carroll showing that class is permanent as she won division one with a neat 73 and in division two Steph Hall led in with 71 and Indu Ghelani topped division three with 76.

The draws have been made for three more top Manchester and District Golf Alliance Inter Club competitio­ns – the biggest of their kind in the country.

The Archie Preston Mixed Foursomes final will be held at Shaw Hill who won the 2017 competitio­n and it is now down to the last 32 in round two.

Shaw Hill have a home tie against Westhought­on and the draw featuring our local teams is:Bramhall v Swinton Park, Greenmount v Romiley..

The Seniors match play has grown in popularity year on year with Manchester Golf Club being the annual final hosts.

The holders Ashtonunde­r-Lyne face a tough trip to Didsbury and the rest of the draw for our local teams is : Cavendish v Macclesfie­ld.

In the Williams BMW Junior Challenge (holders Manchester GC) which will see Lowes Park GC host the final the draw for round two sees – Bramall Park v Dunham Forest, Disley v Leigh.

Lymm Golf Club’s junior team will represent Cheshire in the National County Junior team finals at Frilford Heath Golf Club in August after winning the Cheshire Junior Team championsh­ips at Chester Golf Club.

Chester has been the venue for the competitio­n for several years and they put on a superb course and fantastic weather as 23 teams competed for the county title with other individual golfers in the field.

For the first time in the competitio­n’s history it was an all girls team who came out on top with Sophie Mullarkey, McKenzie Gourlay and Freya Jackson providing the best nett score led by Sophie with a fabulous individual haul of 42 points.

Bramall Park’s team of Nathan Hopley, Alex Wilcock and Lewis Welsh were the runners-up and Delamere Forest’s Sam Long, Harry Shaw and Henry Brogan were the top gross team.

The best gross score of 38 points was posted by Liam Mann of Bramhall Golf Club.
