Stockport Old Town... Foodie Friday

- Rosemary Barratt

EVERY last Friday of the month Foodie Friday brings the community of Stockport together and showcases the many fantastic street food businesses based in our town.

Foodie Friday gives them a great platform to promote their brand to a wide audience and build a loyal customer base.

Our next event, on Friday, June 29, features a number of Stockportbased street food traders who have established a reputation as being among the finest in the North West. As a result, they are in demand for events all over the country.

Originating from a family of successful street food vendors in the heart of rural Thailand,

Somtam Street bring authentic Thai dishes to Foodie Friday.

Owners Steve and Thanya, described as the ‘king and queen’ of Thai cuisine, use secret recipes passed down through generations.

Their famous homemade pad Thai noodles have been described as some of the very best in Britain. Since setting up Oh

My Glaze in 2015, Scott Graham has developed an impressive following for his cajun American inspired menu specialising in grilled chicken with bespoke homemade glazes now bottled for general sale.

A Foodie Friday regular, Scott also appears at The Makers Market, GRUB Food Fair and The Light Cinema and has been nominated for Best Street Food at the Stockport Food and Drink Awards.

A real pizza enthusiast, Paul Corrigan started trading on Stockport Market three years ago selling wood-fired pizzas. Since then, I Knead

Pizza has become a crowd favourite at Foodie Friday, where his converted horse-box trailer is regularly oversubscribed with orders for pizzas.

We’re delighted that demand for his pizzas is so great that Paul will soon be opening his first pizzeria in his home of Reddish. ArtiSam’s Sam Dugdale has worked in professional kitchens from the age of fourteen and has learnt to make the most of what seasonal fresh produce is available nearby.

Sam’s passion for foraging sees him incorporating wild ingredients into his dishes wherever possible and he is also a great champion of sustainability.

At Foodie Friday, Sam has a range of tasty vegan dishes with arancini a current speciality. The long queue for Oh

Mei Dumpling speaks for itself. Mei started making her homemade, handmade chinese pan-fried dumplings to order two years ago but they became a runway success as soon as she started selling them at Foodie Friday.

Inspired by her mum who taught her everything, Mei is thrilled to have been nominated for Best Street Food at the Stockport Food and Drink Awards.

The multi-award winning and highly popular Lord of the Pies is long established in Stockport with a shop on St Petersgate and presence at many of the north-west’s premier food events.

Their new branded trailer has proven a big hit at Foodie Friday with massive queues for signature dishes such as the famous Stockport pie.

Lord of the Pies has been nominated for Best Producer and Best Casual Eats at the Food and Drink Awards.

All this delicious food is right on your doorstep so come and sample the wares of these amazing Stockport street food traders at our next Foodie Friday on June 29 in Stockport Market Place.
