Your Real Schools Guide
CHEADLE Hulme High School’s ‘unashamedly academic’ ethos is the reason for its continued success after it was named the best in Stockport in the 2018 Real Schools Guide.
The Guide, published by the data unit from Reach - publisher of the Stockport Express – uses 51 different measures, put together from the latest publicly-available data and broken into four categories – attainment, teaching, attendance and outcomes.
Our system aims to move beyond the limited measurements of exam results and give parents a better idea of which state schools will help their child prosper, no matter what their background may be.
The guide factors in other things as well - like whether all pupils are making progress, what attendance is like, the ratio of teachers to pupils and whether students go on to further education or jobs.
And it shows Cheadle Hulme High School is not only the best in Stockport, according to the Real Schools Guide, it is also the most in demand.
With results rising consistently above the national average, places have been oversubscribed for years.
It was in the top three per cent of schools nationally for the Progress 8 measure and 40 per cent of their exam results last summer were graded at a 7/A or above.
The school, run by the ever-expanding Laurus Trust, strives to reduce the achievement gap between pupils in statefunded schools and those educated at independents.
Headteacher for Cheadle Hulme High School Linda Magrath said: “At the heart of our drive for results is our firm belief that for many years there hasn’t been a level playing field for students educated in the state sector compared to those who are educated independently. As Cheadle Hulme High School shows, that ‘norm’ can be challenged.
“We take our commitment to be ‘unashamedly academic’ very seriously, but that never comes at the expense of offering our students a warm, nurturing environment. As delighted as I am by our results, I am equally proud of the support shown by our staff to help our students become well-rounded individuals and of how our young people view their role in the wider community.”
Teachers and staff say they go the extra mile to help children improve and reach their full potential.
The school plans to share its expertise as The Laurus Trust opens new primary and secondary schools in Cheadle Hulme, Droylsden and Didsbury over the next year.
The so-called Cheadle Hulme High 2 (CHH2) will open its doors to 150 Year 7 pupils this September. »»For full list of Greater Manchester results, log in to manchester eveningnews.co.uk
