Setting new records keeps the Supporters

WITH the new season almost upon us, and with James Gannon’s Stockport County gearing up for, and looking well capable of promotion this term, the Supporters Cooperativ­e meanwhile maintains a degree of focus , their pre-season position boosted by a couple of records and high expectatio­ns in a couple of areas. The records first. Well we have reported in this column the fact that our flagship event, and major Guardian Account fund raiser, the Stockport Hatters Half Marathon had attracted over 200 entries in record time, and happily we can confirm the continuati­on of this trend since our earlier announceme­nt, so it looks very much like the race, on 2 September, will be another cracker.

Talking about the Guardian Account leads us to note that the fund has now surged to a magnificen­t £45091.68 total.

We say ‘magnificen­t’ and it truly is so, and a massive tribute to County fans who have consistent­ly supported this effort to help safeguard the future of the Club , but we are also well aware of criticism from some quarters as to the need for and possible affective ness of such a fund.

In response we can only say that our Club is worth going that extra mile for and the above mentioned support would seem to indicate that, on the whole, County supporters agree with this contention.

We are constantly endeavouri­ng to work on and explore alternativ­e ways to eventually utilise the Guardian Account but ultimately any decision regarding the fund will be for the members to decide, so we hope that
