Doing the rounds for pounds
PUB owners organised a charity walk in which 320 people took part, raising thousands of pounds.
Walkers went pub to pub, covering 12.5 miles, to raise funds for the Foundation for PraderWilli Research UK (FPWR UK).
They started at the Fletchers Arms in Denton, stopping off at the Spread Eagle in Romiley, the Puss in Boots in Offerton and Three Bears in Hazel Grove, before finishing at The Hesketh, Cheadle Hulme, where a party was held.
The event was run by Almond Family Pubs for the fifth year running, as the FPWR UK is a charity close to the Almond family’s heart.
The organisation funds research into Prader-Willi Syndrome, which company director Vicki Almond’s daughter, Bella Williams, now aged five, was diagnosed with at two weeks old.
The syndrome is rare, affecting one in 20,000 children born in the UK and causes a constant desire to eat, driven by a permanent feeling of hunger.
It can lead to dangerous weight gain and may also cause restricted growth, leading to short stature, reduced muscle tone, learning difficulties and behavioural problems.
Supporters donated through sponsorships and donations and the current total raised sits at £11,500.
Vicki said; “Whilst this is less than last year, which was more than £17,000, it has still massively exceeded our target, because we knew this was exceptional due to some really high individual sponsorships.
“We’ve been supporting the charity for five years now and to date the company has raised more than £70,000, which we’re obviously over the moon with.
“We have even been shortlisted for our charitable work in the Stockport Business Awards’ Excellence in CSR category.”
