A great day hailed as second to none

Tim kept up the momentum going to the 17 th tee on level par gross and finishing on two pars would have seen him return a nett 57.

But at this time things went a little wrong and he finished with a nett 67 – still enough to top division two and set up plenty of celebrations at the 19th.

The other divisional winners were Mike Radcliffe 65 and Alan Booth 69.

Another Vale ace man, Geoff Loughlin, had a good week too after having a club fitting with professional Dave Myers.

Geoff discovered that he could hit the PING G400 7 iron an average of 18 yards further than his own 7 iron.

That is a massive improvement and the ball was also going higher and he decided to try the G400 because he recently bought a G400 utility club and has been getting on with it so well. A couple of days later Geoff also had a hole-in-one at the fourth and guess which club he used – the PING G400 utility of course, which earned back £44.50 of its cost in one shot.

Cheadle’s men played a medal and Scratch competition and in division one it needed a cpo on 63 to take Geoff Dicken into top spot from Duncan Clarkson with Brian Combe having the best scrath of 75.

In division two Chris Booth was a clear winner with 66 from Nigel Day 68 and Denis Ryan and David Croft, both 69. A 9-hole qualifier for Cheadle ladies was won by Beverley Van Ross with 20 points, one more than Gillian Best.
