COUNTY SUPPORTERS COOPERATIVE COLUMN

- BY IAN BROWN

AT the start of every new season, it is customary for the Chair of the Stockport County Supporters Cooperative to issue some kind of statement to members and the general body of Stockport County.

With this in mind, I set off to contact the current incumbent – Pete Towey – and ask for something to set us going on what we hope to be a successful 2018-19 season for County.

As usual Pete was ready and willing to oblige, and here is his response: “Stockport County’s greatest asset is its fan-base. Over the last few bitterly disappointing years the loyalty and dedication of our supporters has been amazing.

“It is time that the energy and passion of the fans is harnessed to help to drive our club forwards.

“The Supporters’ Co-operative is a legally established organisation, wholly run by its members.

“We regularly meet with directors and officials of the club in order to put the fans’ point of view. The more who join us, the more we will be listened to.

“All County supporters are invited to join the co-op. We are a democratic organisation where every member is entitled to their say.

“If you care about the future of SCFC, join the co-op now. The more supporters who join, the stronger we are. Make a real difference – join the co-op today.”

Wise words there from Pete, and if you want to join (£12 per year) you can do this via webcollect.org.uk/ mem/index.

Now, having mentioned one County supporters tradition, I move on to another namely ‘Memorial Day’ – the day when County fans meet to honour the memory of countless County fans now no longer with us. This year it takes place on Friday, August 3, from noon at the Royal Scot public house, Marple Bridge.

It is a wonderful County tradition well worth maintaining, and we hope that you will be able to join us.
