FAMILIAR faces from Coronation Street were in town as Stockport Plaza held its summertime launch for its Christmas panto.

This year’s festive favourite at the theatre, on Mersey Square, is classic fairy tale Sleeping Beauty, which runs from November 30 to January 6.

And returning to star is Claire King, who appeared as Erica Holroyd in Corrie and spent a decade playing Kim Tate is rival soap Emmerdale.

She will once again play the role of a baddie, namely Carrabosse - the Wicked Fairy.

Claire, 55, has previously had the audience at the Plaza booing and hissing when she starred as the Wicked Queen in Snow White back in 2009.

Joining her this time round is another Plaza favourite Ted Robbins, who reprises his role as the panto dame.

This year he will be Queen Herione having proved a popular Widow Twanky in last year’s production of Aladdin.

Although he shot to fame in Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights he is also remembered for appearing in Coronation Street as paranormal enthusiast Brendan Finch.

Ted Doan, general manager at the Plaza, said: “It may be the summer holidays but we were delighted to host our pantomime launch for Sleeping Beauty and it was a triumph.

“It is an absolute must for your festive treats, all ages can come together and share a heart-warming memory that will last a lifetime, oh yes it will!”

Another cast member who will be returning to the Plaza is Bradley Thompson, who will be the comic Jangles the Jester.

Annelies Williams will take the title role and Robert Laughlin plays King Ferdinand.

Ted added: “We will have a stella cast, sumptuous costumes, a magnificent dragon and staging that ensures that everyone enjoys the pantomime experience.”

For tickets call the Plaza box office on 477 7779 or 0843 208 1495 for group bookings.
