HEAVY rain couldn’t dampen spirits at Stockport Pride - the borough’s celebration of diversity and inclusion.

The event took place with a parade from Redrock, in the town centre, through Merseyway and up to the Market Place, where festivities continued.

It was led by Stockport Silver Band and included the Mayor of Stockport Councillor Walter Brett and his Mayoress wife Maureen.

At the Market Place there were stalls - some of which had moved inside the Market Hall and a stage for live music.

Sara Auty, 29, was among those attending and said: “It was great to see the community come together to show their support despite the terrible weather, which goes to show how committed the people of Stockport are.

“Pride is such a fun and positive event where diversity is celebrated, everyone feels included and it really shows in Stockport.

“People happily got involved to spread positive messages of inclusion. Even dogs showed their support by wearing rainbow scarfs.”

Stephen Bowyer, chairman of the Pride organising committee, said: “Despite a worrying start in the morning due to the weather, the community really turned out for a great day.”

Music for the event was organised by Semitone Studios in Marple.

The event was also supported by Tesco Bags of Help, Stockport Homes, Totally Stockport, Manchester Fertility, Manchester Pride, the Ted Darling Crime Series and Hand of Hope Tattoo. »»Pictures by Saz Media
