‘Significant amount’ of money stolen during daring raid
A CASH machine was blown up by robbers using gas.
Police were called to reports of a burglary at the Co-operative on Finney Lane, in Heald Green, in the early hours.
Before officers arrived four men pulled up outside the shop in a dark-coloured Volkswagen.
Three forced open the shutters of the shop then used gas as an explosive to blow up the cash machine before taking a number of cash boxes.
Detective Sergeant Stephen Hartley said: “These thieves have potentially got away with a significant amount of money.”

Police were called to reports of a burglary at the Co-operative on Finney Lane, in Heald Green, at around 1.30am last Tuesday.
Before officers arrived to the scene four men pulled up outside the shop in a dark coloured Volkswagen.
Three men left the car and forced open the shutters of the shop.
They then used gas as an explosive to blow up the cash machine and took a quantity of cash boxes from inside.
The men then jumped back into the car and fled in the direction of Freshfields.
Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
The get-away driver was described as white and another of the men was also white, of slim build and wearing a grey hoodie, blue t-shirt, blue bottoms and white-grey trainers.
A third man was white and wearing all dark clothes with blue trainers. The fourth man was also white and wearing black trainers.
Detective Sergeant Stephen Hartley, from GMP’s Stockport borough, said: “This incident happened in the early hours of the morning and although not a lot of people would have witnessed it, you might have heard or seen something suspicious.
“These thieves have potentially got away with a significant amount of money, as well as causing damage to the shop itself.
“I would urge members of the public with any information to get in touch with police so we can find the people responsible and in the meantime we are doing everything we can to find these brazen thieves.”
