Sizzler rounds off the summer

THE end of summer is always marked by the end of the Sale Sizzler 5k series and the temperatur­e was certainly cooler this week.

The fourth and final sizzler was again won by the incredible athlete that is Mohammad Aburezeq from Altrincham & District AC in a typically breezy time of 14:26.

Iain Murdoch had a great race, not only finishing as the first harrier but also breaking through the 17 minute barrier and finishing in 16:62m.

Ben Batho was again first junior over the line, also just slipping under the 17 minute mark with 16:58m.

Jenny Knass was fourth female overall and first V35 in 18:30m. Steve Shaughness­y, Clara Jarvis and Jane Mulryan also all won their age categories.

Anya Waugh had a fantastic day at the British Wheelchair Athletics Associatio­n Gran Prix at Stoke Mandeville.

Anya is an U13 T54 racer and competed in the Senior Women’s 100, placing 5th and taking a full second off her personal best with a time of 22.48.

Anya also placed 4th in the Senior Women 200m and the 400m where she knocked a whole five seconds off her personal best to finish in 80.09.

This means that Anya now ranks 3rd in the country.

Stockport was also represente­d by Michael Taylor, Ben Callander, Andrew Small and Dan Bramhall who had great results across the board.

Northern Athletics U13, U15 and U17 Track and Field Championsh­ips took place in Liverpool.

Abigail Pawlett won the U17 Women 100m final in 12.72 after winning her heat in 12.57.

Mia Lowndes took bronze in the final in 12.85 after also winning her heat in 12.59. Abigail was also second in the U17 Women 200m with a season’s best of 25.30, third in the High Jump with a jump of 1.63, second in the Shot Put Throw and took gold in the Long Jump.

Holly Aitchison also medalled in the U17 Women Long Jump and Triple Jump, stepping on the podium to take bronze and gold respective­ly. Holly Murray took silver in the U17 Women 300m final with 40.59 after comfortabl­y winning her heat.

U13s Darcy Breen and Freya Murdoch had great runs in their 800m heats, both placing second and Darcy achieving a new personal best of 2.24.72. Amy Battle placed second in her 75m Hurdle heat but missed out on a medal, coming 5th in the final.

Emily Misantoni took gold in the U17 Women 300m Hurdle final and the next day only just missed out on gold, settling for silver in the 80m Hurdles, having also run a 200m only 30 minutes before.

Lucy Robinson had a great High Jump in the U15 Women final, taking home a bronze medal.

Jack Doodson pulled a fantastic Triple Jump out of the bag, winning the U15 Men final with a personal best of 11.19.

Holly Benson comfortabl­y won the U17 Women Shot Put Throw with a distance of 11.87m. U13 Holly Stewart placed third in her Shot Put Throw final with a throw of 8.78.

Rose Lasseter also had a great throw in the U15 Women Hammer Throw Final taking silver with a personal best of 39.86m. Final medal of the day for throws went to Bethan Kelly for her third place in the U17 Women Javelin Throw with a distance of 36.09.

At the Manchester Internatio­nal Match at Sportcity, the U13 girls held their own with silver in the 4 x 100m made up of Holly Stewart, Millie Everett, Emma Wood Doyle and Lola Unsworth.

Darcy Breen, Saffron Meade and Freya Murdoch took gold in the 3 x 500m relay. Natasha Harrison took silver in the Senior Women 400m with 54.47.
