October return at Love Lane

THE Love Lane Winter Bowls Championsh­ips returns to Stockport on Sunday October 14th 2018.

The sweeps are now into their eighth year which is longer than any other current winter event in the town. Many top players have visited the green which gets better as the weeks pass and usually peaks in February and March.

Everyone is welcome to attend with the organiser saying use it or lose it after numbers dropped slightly last winter.

There is a mixture of singles pairs and teams event on the calendar which will suit everyone who attends. The draw is done in the hut each morning and hot food and drinks are available. The first event on the 14th October is a singles and anyone interested in entering should contact Jamie on 07922 789909.

Learner bowlers and junior bowlers are very welcome to attend and winter bowling is perfect for developing your game.

George and Dragon are now firm favourites for the S and D title after a whopping full house at relegated Great Moor (2).

That result combined by a stunning Hadfield win at Houldswort­h WMC has now put the men from Hyde firmly in poll position. Terry Gales side did manage to poach the aggregate thanks to big cards from Tommy Johnstone 21-6 and Wigan signing Billy Speed 21-6.

Hadfield however have had another solid season in the top flight and recorded a massive shock 9-7 away day success.

The other big result in the top flight came from Woodley Sports who stunned The Vic at Webb Lane.

Mike Coram’s side are now inching closer to safety with The Waggon and Horses bang in trouble. John Rothwell and Billy Smythe both picked up big 21-10 wins to secure the aggregate in Offerton.
