Singles event to start off

- BOWLS JAMIE BRAMLEY

THE winter season will start at Love Lane on Sunday October 14th.

In a break from tradition the opener will be a singles event and to enter you must book in now by calling Jamie on 07922 789909.

The greens are already looking in good order as seen on the drone picture taken here by Jason Whittaker.

The S and D title race rages on with George and Dragon and Houldsworth WMC both slugging it out. Houldsworth would have been slightly disappointed with their six and the aggregate win over struggling Poynton Sports last week.

The away side picked up some good scalps with Phil Oldham, Ben Holbrook, Malcolm Sims and Neil Thelwell all in the winners enclosure.

The Dragon knew a win of any kind at The Grapes would have all but taken the title to Hyde and ended Houldsworths long running reign.

With The Grapes chasing third spot the hosts put the brakes on Dragons title waggon smashing home seven winners and the aggregate.

The table now shows Dragon 22.5 points clear of Houldsworth but the men from Reddish have two games in hand. It should be an interesting week with both sides playing away from home on Tuesday and the picture should be much clearer after those fixtures. The league rules state any games in hand must be played before the season concludes so matters could get very interesting soon. At the bottom of the table it looks like Great Moor (2) and Waggon and Horses are condemned to second division bowling next term.
