Architects of our own struggles

- FAN’S VIEW IAN DOOLEY

ONCE again County were masters of their own down fall on Saturday, playing a Nuneaton side that had conceded six the previous week and have been in the bottom three for much of the season so far, we shot ourselves in the foot, twice.

If it hadn’t have been for Ben Hinchliffe’s first half display, it could have been a whole lot worse.

That 0-6 scoreline from last week might have been a one off, but never the less it should have given Jim and the team enough of an insight as to how bad Nuneaton are, only two wins and nine goals scored in 12 games is relegation form.

But we struggled through the game and caused ourselves no end of trouble.

The first half in particular was awful, we dominated the possession, as you’d expect with us being at home, but we did nothing other than pass the ball across the defence and on the odd occasion we did press forward we lost that possession with a wayward pass or a player falling over.

How many times did Sam Walker slip at the crucial moment?

Wearing the wrong studs I’m guessing.

Elliot Osborne and Matty Warburton, so dominant against Altrincham, were shadows of themselves, either chasing the same ball or standing still thinking the other would get the ball. It just wasn’t good enough.

Jim made a half time change and Nyal Bell looked to have been the missing piece to our jigsaw as, for the first time in the afternoon, we started to play good, positive, forward looking football.

We grabbed an equaliser when Adam Thomas deftly side-footed the ball past the keeper and suddenly we were in control.

A red card to the visitors and a penalty, cleanly dispatched by Sam Walker put us 2-1 up but then, just as we think the points are ours we gift Nuneaton the simplest of goals and the points are shared.

Our home record is pretty dismal – nine points from a possible 21 isn’t even play-off form nevermind promotion but weirdly we haven’t lost a game since the beginning of September, I just can’t figure it out.

Something else I can’t figure is booing the m-o-t-m. Adam Thomas might not have been your choice but he gave his all, scored one and was instrumental in winning the penalty,

He’s one of our own, some supporters need to take a look at themselves.
