Contested election represents healthy state
I HAVE written before, in this column, about democracy – an issue that, on the surface, unites the world.
Absolutely everyone (and their dog too I suspect) states that democracy is wonderful, even those despots who have bestrode charnel houses and assorted dictatorships the world over, happily cloak their nefarious regimes with a democratic veneer.
That’s hyperbole I suppose, and democracy is very much in the eye of the beholder, everyone’s idea of same being decidedly different.
That said, there’s a lot of it about just now, with well over 100 national elections being run in 2018 worldwide.
Yes, the Djiboutian election were one of the first in February, and Afghanistan held theirs in October. But the real earth shakers were to come as Brazil have just elected a leader further to the right than Donald Trump, whilst that worthy awaits the outcome of the November mid terms in the USA .
If ‘The Donald’ awaits next week’s polls with trepidation, he will be positively tranquil in comparison to Theresa May whose rictus grin gets ever more horrifying as she seeks to avoid holding one.
And so to Stockport (at last I hear you exclaim in anguish) and the Stockport County Supporters Cooperative.
I have given early warning recently, via this column, of the upcoming elections for the Board of the Cooperative, and the moment is fast approaching.
