AFITNESS team transformed themselves into a cast of superhero characters to welcome guests to their new women-only gym.

The new facility, Hero Fitness, located on Heaton Lane, Stockport, opened earlier this month, catering specifically to women.

The female-only membership gym allows entry to men when accompanied by an in-house trainer and encourages members to be ‘their own hero’.

Staff dressed up as Marvel Comics characters, Spiderman, Iron Man, Wolverine and Captain America, as well as rival DC Comics’ Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn, to launch the new gym , owned by Stockport fitness instructors Lee Wardle, aged 34, and Shaun O’Brien, 41.

Inside, the walls of the gym are adorned with artwork from comic books to keep members focused on becoming a hero, and facilities include a health bar, Killer Gramms, serving nutritious meals for slimming, bulking or lean muscle mass, and Harlequin Massage Therapy, run by masseuse and reflexologist Lisa Byrne.

There is also a counselling service, called TheraPT, and yoga and pilates classes are on offer, run by Manchester Storm ice hockey team instructor Lauren Jessica.

Located in the old premises of Reflexions gym, near the viaduct, Hero Fitness also has a crèche, fitness classes for children, two saunas and sunbed facilities.

Lee, who returned from his first Ironman contest in Turkey to launch the gym, said: “It is fantastic to finally open the facility.

“We’ve put a lot of thought and work into it.

“We want people using the gym and its accompanying services to become the best version of themselves, and in doing so become their own heroes.

“They’ll get all the support they need from us to do that.

“That’s why we’ve brought together so many complementary services under one roof, all delivered by experts in what they do.

“There is everything people need to get the absolute best out of themselves for their lives. That’s what we want for all who use Hero Fitness.

“Membership is reserved for women so they can feel safe and liberated in the gym to focus entirely on their training.

“The facilities are open to men when they are being trained by one of our fitness instructors. They just need to book in with one of us.”
