Memorable Frank finish worth wait

- FAN’S VIEW IAN DOOLEY

WELL if you’re going to score a goal make it a memorable one – and if possible bag it in the last 20 seconds and leave the opposition no chance to reply.

Well done Frank Mulhern, two goals in two games from off the bench, real character and spirit.

Apart from those last few seconds the game was a disappointment, a case of “after the Lord Mayors show” I think.

Now there’s two ways of looking at this, 1: we were below par or 2: Brackley had done their homework on us, either way, it was a fairly even game, both sides wanted the points and as such both sides nullified the other.

Shots on target were even, as were corners, the chances on goal were few and far between while in midfield the game was a little disjointed, both sides guilty of giving the ball away.

For County, Osborne looked out of sorts, leaving balls that should have been his or trying to win it when it would have been better to leave it to Jordan Keane or Sam Walker.

Up front, Nyal Bell let the visiting defence dominate him, the young hero of Huish Park hardly managed a meaningful touch all afternoon.

As so often happens the visitors had a purple patch and we all knew their goal was coming.

A quick break, a low cross and the ball’s sitting in the back of our net!

It’s our Achilles Heel and at this point our heads could have dropped – last season they would have done – but there’s a new belief at Stockport County at the moment.

Jim brought on Mulhern, Stephenson and Dimaio, we upped the pressure and clawed out a result.

There were some “handbags” on the touchline that seemed to involve just about every player and member of management from both teams –it ended with Jim sent off (can he fine himself?) and a steely determination from the players.

We pressured and with time running out Scott Duxbury sent over a corner kick that Frank met with the most sublime of touches to give us the equaliser we deserved.

Courage and faith until the death.

By now we’ll have played and I hope beaten Blyth and we’ll be tantalisingly close to the play off positions.

Hopefully 13 games without defeat, the League is there to be taken, we’re going strong in two cup competitions.

Life could be worse!
