Mellor ease to Nomads victory

THERE was a wide range of domestic and county cup action dominating the busy programme of matches but Abacus Media provided the outstandin­g result of the day.

They marched into the later stages of the Manchester Challenge Cup with a superb 5-1 win over Egerton FC.

Mellor were also in stunning form as they cruised through in the Stockport Senior Cup with a huge 12-0 win at Cheadle Heath Nomads.

Joining them in the next round are AFC Stockport who won a penalty shoot out at Cheadle Town seconds following a 1-1 deadlock in normal time.

Premier division highfliers High Lane are also through with a comfortabl­e 7-1 win at Hillgate.

In the Rhodes Cup, Stoconians gave a good account of themselves before going 2-0 to Premier giants Whalley Range and Flixton also worked hard against Parrs Wood Celtic who have been scoring goals for fun in division one.

Determined defending and outstandin­g goalkeepin­g restricted Celtic to goals from Steven Hacker and Pat Davin, with his 22nd of the season in a hard-earned 2-0 win.

Dom Doyle are flying high in division one and they won their local derby at division two promotion hunters Newton in convincing manner with an emphatic 4-0 win.

There were also six games in the Wray Cup which produced wins for Rochdalian­s seconds by 6-1 at Aldermere, Chorltonia­ns seconds by 3-1 over Santos andChadder­ton Park by 3-2 at South Manchester seconds.

Few problems for Signol Athletic as they won their local derby with Heaton Mersey by 8-3.

There were some close encounters in the Whitehead Cup with Chorltonia­ns Villa winning a penalty shoot out by 3-1 after a 1-1 draw at Old Stretfordi­ans seconds and Dukinfield Athletic seconds beat AFC Oldham seconds 2-1.

No problems for Rochdale Galaxy in a 7-1 win over Spurley Hey seconds and Stoconians seconds with a 5-2 victory over Trafford United seconds.

Division C teams were all in Hellawell Shield action with Irlam Tigers seconds on a high after a 7-1 win over Whalley Range thirds and Bury Ams thirds won 5-2 at Chorltonia­ns Albion.

Moston Brook fourths worked hard for a 3-2 over Govan Athletic and the other two games went to penalty shoot-outs.

In the Premier division there were just two games and Waterloo bounced back from last week’s defeat by Salford Vics to move into joint second place with three other teams by winning 4-2 at Milton and move above them into second place on goal difference.

In division one there were also two games with Irlam Tigers winning 5-2 at Oldham Vics and Didsbury moved nearer midtable safety with a tight 2-1 win over Moston Brook.

In division two Hollingwor­th kept in the promotion mix with a 2-0 win at Spurley Hey and Urmston Town matched this score hosting Mellor seconds with Callum McGlynn and MoM Danny Johnson netting.

There was just one game in division three with Stoconians thirds cruising to a 6-1 win at Mellor thirds.

More action in division B with wins for leaders Parrs Wood Celtic by 6-0 over Staly Lions, Bury Ams seconds by 2-1 over Didsbury seconds and Chadderton Cott seconds by 6-3 at Moston Brook thirds.
