Not a good start for two new business ventures?

-

HAVING read about the new businesses recently opened on the Underbanks I made a special trip to Stockport intending to spend some money and do my bit for the independents.

Both shops were shut and neither was displaying their opening times. As I walked along Little Underbank I noticed other businesses were closed and most were not showing opening hours.

I was left wondering if the new ‘entrepreneurs’ really have the acumen needed to succeed. I returned home with my wallet intact. I won’t bother again. Grahame Buxton Hazel Grove

I QUESTION NHS ‘VIOLENCE’

RE: Violence against staff in NHS hospitals

I knew quite a bit about violence that goes on in casualty, just louts, very often drinking, but was very surprised when someone said (on the Victoria Derbyshire show, Oct 31) that they were a nurse on a psychiatric unit also experiencing it in there with the patients. In fact I wonder if it’s true?

You don’t get drinking going on in the psychiatric unit and its not usually people with mental health problems who are violent, not even if those problems are so bad that they have to be admitted into hospital and even if they are, the staff can usually get it well under control.

Who was the ‘nurse’ who said otherwise? Maybe she was no more than a haematologist calling herself one and who merely pops in to collect some blood or maybe it was merely a carer and how much tuition have some of these people had in mental illness?

I have been appalled at how little some carers know or even can get so very wrong, for example, clearly not having googled it in under the NHS, have made a statement on how violence is a symptom of schizophrenia and even given supposed examples of a patient they nursed who had this.

It is my belief that they have merely made their own interpretations and that if a person believes a thing then they will see it. Glenys Ann Stockport

THANKS FOR REMEMBRANCE

I WOULD like to say well done to all the men, women and children who made Stockport’s remembrance Sunday so special.

I felt proud of Stockport and the tasteful, dignified, inclusive program which was provided. I hope our forefathers would have been pleased.

This included the exemplary observance of every person present whom I witnessed.

I am sure that there were many people in the background working tirelessly.

I would especially like to thank the people in yellow high viz cloths who provided a smile and help to anyone in need.

I also think that those working in the war memorial and art gallery deserve a huge thank you for their great contribution, as hundreds of people filled the building to enjoy the evenings events. Thomas JP Muldoon Heaton Moor

LET THE PEOPLE DECIDE BREXIT

THE former Brexit Secretary (a leave-voting Conservative) has said that it would be better to stay in the EU than accept the current Brexit deal.

It is now time to put the question to the British people. Do you want to accept this deal, leave the EU with no deal or remain?

There are so many other pressing issues that just aren’t being addressed because Brexit is crowding them out.

Now that we know what leaving means, surely the final say should be given to the British people. Lisa Smart Lib Dem councillor Bredbury Green and Romiley
