Golden girl’s Christmas with ex
OLYMPIC gold medallist Rebecca Adlington will be spending Christmas with her ex-husband Harry Needs and their daughter Summer.
The swimmer, from Romiley, announced her split from her husband back in 2016 after a year and a half of marriage. But the pair have remained close friends.
Rebecca told OK! Magazine: “I’m so grateful that we’ve remained close; he’s a fantastic dad. I think the reason we get on so well is because Summer comes first for us. We always make time for each other.”
Four time Olympic gold medallist Rebecca says three-year-old Summer has adapted well to changes in her life. “Summer said to me the other day: ‘I miss you when I’m at Daddy’s, and I miss Daddy when I’m with you.’ She does understand now she’s older and says: ‘Mummy, we have to share our time.’’
Rebecca has spoken to OK! about dating life after marriage and body confidence. She recently enjoyed a holiday to the Maldives with Summer and boyfriend Andrew Parsons.
“Me, Andy and Summer are going to St Lucia in February for my 30th,” she said.
“I said to Andy: ‘Hopefully a nine-hour flight with a three year old won’t put you off!’
“But he’s used to her now and they really get on - it’s cute.
“Summer doesn’t really understand what husbands and boyfriends are but she says: ‘Mummy and Andy kiss!’’
Retired athlete Rebecca has also revealed that, despite her prowess in the water, she was in fact scared of the sea until very recently.
She said: “I’ve only just conquered my fear, so we went snorkelling. I don’t like that you don’t know what’s underneath you in the sea. Jaws scarred me for life!
“People are surprised to hear that, but swimming in the sea is completely different to a pool.”
