Disley ladies raise funds with double

DISLEY Golf Club’s lady captain Irene Fell was delighted with a great double of events that helped raise funds for the Little Princess Trust.

The first event was their first Sunday Ladies Open which had amazing prizes with great sponsorshi­p from Hicks Watson and some donations from the players.

The winning team was Sarah Beard (Marple), Jane Darcey (Mottram Hall) and Ann McCormick (Disley), who each received a £100 voucher for John Lewis plus a Jo Malone candle.

Two days later they held a Charity Fashion Show which raised £1,170 for the charity.

Irene said: “There was a great response from our own members and friends and people from other golf clubs and I would like to thank them for their generosity, support along with our own hard-working ladies who put in a lot of time to make both events a big success along with the sponsors.”

Irene then led from the front in a 14-hole Stableford for Disley ladies with her 31 points taking her three clear of Ann McCormick and Gaynor Calvert.

Winter League action for Disley’s men saw A Cairns and P McCormick win a cpo on 44 points from M Holtom and C Taylor, one more than S Dunlop and J Stuart.

Avro’s men played a singles Stableford for the Captain’s Charity and Derek Bell was in a league of his own with 38 points from Michael Thornber, Chris Robinson and Ian Hallworth, all 40.

Roy Whalley was also a clear winner in a singles Stableford at Avro with 36 points, five more than Ian Hallworth and Michael Thornber.

Romiley’s men played round 3 of the Winter Top Dog OoM and Steve Heginbotha­m and Andrew Jackson were on top with 42 points from Andy Smith and Paul Himsworth 40 and Joe Smith and Richard Manock 37.

The 14-hole Bonnza Stableford was won by Chris Broster, Steve Kidd, Ian Kershaw and David Skillingto­n with 77 points, four more than Mark Hilton, Richard Hale, Steve Reel and Kevin Bennett.

Romiley ladies played a 14-hole Waltz and dancing to top spot with 50 points were Jackie Purcer, Sharon Dineen and Louise Meeks from Rosalind Hale, Judi Dixon and Edith Clarke who won a cpo on 45 from Irene barrow, Joan Mellor and Janet Godfrey.

The second round of the Junior Winter League at Romiley was won by Leo Downes with 23 points from Aaron Bardsley 16 and Matthew Byle 10.

A nine-hole Stableford for Cheadle ladies was won by Jacuie Popplewell with 16 points, two more than Chani Ganatra and Barbara Collier.

A Stableford for Mellor and Townscliff­e ladies was won by Pat Phillips with 33 points, one more than Christine Bartlett.

M and T’s men played a singles Stableford in two divisions and top of division one with 32 points was Graham Bailey from Paul Wilkinson 30.

In division two Peter Woodruff was top of the shop with 32 points from John Stockdale, Stephen Rawlings, John Howarth, Peter Holmes and Mark Curtis all 30.

The latest Manchester Alliance fixture at High Legh Park was close in all sections with former European Tour stars Grant Hamerton (Pike Fold) and Phil Archer (Poulton Park), who has again be selected for the PGA GB and I team to take on the USA in Greece, tied on 39 points, two more than Ryan O’Neill (Penwortham).

Ryan was delighted to take top spot in the pro am section partnering Stamford’s Steve Moores to 45 points.
