Account landmark creates buzz at the Top

- COUNTY SUPPORTERS COOPERATIVE COLUMN IAN BROWN

AS indicated in last week’s Stockport Express, the Supporters Cooperative held their AGM recently at the Spinning Top.

Although by far the most important event in our calendar, it is usually not the most thrill packed affair, there being much, necessarily perhaps, dry and largely uninteresting business to conduct.

Well, not this year – in fact there was a buzz of excitement in the air as Treasurer Andrew Burt announced the fantastic news that the Guardian Account had now passed the 50k mark and was pushing on beyond £52,000.

That was great news and it was received well by a decent number in attendance that belied the pessimists doubts about the suitability of the ST as a venue.

The venue turned out to be ideal providing a warm and friendly atmosphere that facilitated business.

By far the most important business on the agenda concerned elections to the board of the Cooperative that , for the first time in 10 years, were contested, with seven candidates chasing five board vacancies.

In this respect Independent Secretary Caroline Burt organised a hustings at which all the candidates (Damian Beaumont, John Giles, Ian Brown, Dave Marchbank, Ian Lancashire, Billy Byrne, and Phil Robinson) addressed the meeting and fielded questions thereafter.

The ballot papers went out after the meeting to all Co-op members, online and through the post. Members need to make sure their vote has been received by the returning officer by midnight on 17 December

Elsewhere we can again confirm that we will be taking donations of warm clothing and food in support of the Wellsprings ‘Rucksack Project’ from 1.30 to 2.40 in the Cheadle End Cabin on 8 December before the Chester game.

After the game we will be in the ST for our latest ‘County Quiz’ hosted by Nick Lee.

This starts at 6pm , and you will be raising cash for the Guardian Account with every drink consumed.
