Armed police swoop on home
ARMED police swooped on a house in Stockport to arrest a man after shots were fired at a property in Lancashire.
The 39-year-old from Cheadle, who hasn’t been named, was held on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and criminal damage.
He was in custody for questioning as the Express went to press.
The shooting incident happened at a house on Garstang Road in Preston on January 4.
A handgun was fired, smashing a porch window. No one was hurt. Armed officers sealed off an area of St Ann’s Road North, at its junction with Finney Lane, in Heald Green, to make the arrest on Monday afternoon.
Greater Manchester Police offered support to the operation.
In a statement, Lancashire Police said: “We have made an arrest today, Monday, January 7, in relation to a firearms discharge at an address on Garstang Road in Preston on January 4.
“A 39-year-old man from Cheadle has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and criminal damage after Lancashire officers, supported by colleagues from GMP, attended an address in Stockport.
“He remains in police custody at this time.”
The road was closed but has now been reopened.
Police in Lancashire said it was ‘only by good fortune’ that no one was injured in the shooting, which was reported at 8.25am just days into the new year.
Det Insp Martin Pearson said a man was spotted running away from the house involved after the shooting.
He said: “It is only by good fortune that no-one was seriously hurt or even killed in this incident and we will do all we can to find those responsible.
“I would reassure people that this incident was not directed at the general public and is believed to be a targeted attack.
“Patrols have been increased in the area.”
