Drug-drive arrest after OAP dies in crash horror

AMAN has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving following the death of an elderly man in a road collision.

Emergency services were called to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a car on Hall Street, at the junction with St Mary’s Way, in Offerton.

A 76-year-old man was taken to hospital in a critical condition after being in a collision with a silver Ford Focus. He died from his injuries a short time later.

A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, drug driving and drink driving. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Police Sergeant Darren Hancock, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigat­ion Unit, said after the crash: “A man has tragically lost his life as a result of this collision and we have specialist officers supporting his family.”

AN elderly man has died after being struck by a car in Stockport.

Emergency services were called to reports of the collision on Hall Street, at the junction with St Mary’s Way, in Offerton, shortly before 8.15pm on January 2.

A 76-year-old man was taken to hospital in a critical condition after being struck by a silver Ford Focus.

He later died from his injuries a short time later.

A 35-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, drug driving and drink driving. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Greater Manchester Police sealed off Hall Street to carry out investigat­ion work after the incident and the street has since reopened.

GMP have launched an investigat­ion and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

“We know the Ford Focus travelled south east along Hall Street before it was involved in this collision and we’re appealing to anyone who saw the car in the area beforehand to get in touch.

“Whilst we have a man in custody, I’d also ask any witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage to call police as soon as possible so we can piece together the full circumstan­ces surroundin­g this collision.”
