In good nick for new year

- IAN BROWN

THE Supporters Cooperative starts the new year in decent nick and with another boost from the Guardian Account which now sits at an excellent £52373.75 as I write this article.

Getting to over £52k was not achieved via osmosis or some trick or feat of ingenious dexterity but by dint of hard graft from members of the Supporters Cooperative board and Cooperative members.

Consistently the top earner for the Guardian Account every year is John Giles’ brainchild the Stockport Hatters Half Marathon which when you consider the kudos this event brings to the Town, the Club and the Cooperative, and the obvious pleasure derived from competing in it by a yearly average of circa 400 runners, you begin to see three’s more than cash involved.

Each home match day Saturday we set up shop in the cabin in the Cheadle End Car Park from 1.30 until 2.40pm, and this gives members and none members valuable access to Cooperative board members, and enables membership sign ups and renewals. It also gives us the opportunity to raise money for the Guardian Account via the sale of County shirts (still only £10 each), and the cabin is the second largest contributor to the Guardian Account.

Other events during the year aim to give value rather than raise cas , and we do try to involve ourselves positively in promoting Stockport County. We have around 220 youngsters from Stockport Vikings, New Mills Juniors u9’s, Kingsway Athletic, Signol Athletic U12s & U13s and Spurley Hey u15s signed up for the SCFC Ticket Initiative.
