Trophy upset to convince any doubters

- FAN’S VIEW IAN DOOLEY

I MENTIONED the other week that I was getting a bit blase about County’s winning streak and how well the team was performing.

Well, for the doubters, if there are any still left, we just beat, no, battered a team not just from the division above us but a full-time team vying for a play-off spot, if not promotion, on their very own plastic pitch!

We were dominant and the 2-4 scoreline flattered them.

On the Flyer again it was a midday start for a very picturesque journey over the M62, the hills were snow covered but the roads were thankfully clear of the white stuff and we arrived at Wetherby Road nice and early to bag a spot behind the home dug-out all prepared for a little bit of manager baiting.

Simon Weaver is a big boy and he can handle it.

The game started and was quite even in the opening exchanges but on 18 minutes the home side opened the scoring when their first telling cross hit Jordan Keane and deflected into the net.

There was nothing to worry about, County were giving as good as they got and there was plenty of the game left. However, Adam Thomas didn’t want to wait as just three minutes later he broke free of the home defence and rifled in a shot from the edge of the box to rattle Mr Weaver and his team.

They were so rattled that just seconds after the re-start Frank Mulhern out ran the defence to steal the ball and slot it past the keeper 1-2 and the County faithful are full of song.

At this point of the match there was only one team in it and they didn’t come from Yorkshire.

The second half started and the home team would have had a verbal bashing but it did them no good as just three minutes in Matty Warburton pounced on another bit of defensive indecision to make it 1-3 and effectively end the game.

Harrogate piled on the pressure but County scored a fourth as Frank, again causing mayhem in the home defence, stole the ball and rounded the keeper to bag his brace.

There was just time for Harrogate to get a late goal but it was too little, too late and our run continues.

Simon Weaver was graceful in defeat, I’m sure daddy will buy him another team next summer, he’ll need it because County will be back next season as potential rivals for promotion.
