ATRAVEL consultant and beauty queen is undertaking a tandem sky dive to raise funds for the Christie hospital.

Deborah Griffiths, of Taunton Avenue West, Stockport, has been chosen as a finalist in the Ms Galaxy UK Beauty Pageant and will travel to America to compete against contestants from across the globe at the Galaxy International Pageant in March.

The finalists, who must all be over 30 years old and unmarried to enter, are all encouraged to help support The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and a title and award for ‘Miss Charity’ will be presented in the pageant – this goes to the finalist who raises the most funds for The Christie.

Deborah, aged 31, has never taken part in a pageant before – or done a sky dive!

But now she is taking the plunge with a fundraising skydive on February 16 to raise money for The Christie’s new outpatient facility in the Proton Beam Therapy Centre.

The ground-breaking centre has been designed to include a research room, so that it can be used, not only to deliver lifesaving treatment, but also to carry out research into future treatments.

Deborah, a business travel consultant at Clarity Travel Management, who lives with her cat Tom and husky Lexi, said: “I have some good family and friends that have either battled themselves or had someone they love battle this terrible illness and this is for each and every single one of them.

“I’ve always liked the idea of taking part in something like the pageant.

“It’s a great way to empower women and raise awareness for some great causes like The Christie.”

Deborah added that she is feeling nervous about the pageant final in four weeks’ time, but has enjoyed meeting the other competitors.

She has been busy gathering donations ahead of the charity sky dive, as well as dress shopping for the pageant.

“I attended the Galaxy Queens Pageant Land Ball at the weekend and met a lot of girls taking part in the finals, so my nerves have calmed and turned to excitement,” she added.

“Everyone is lovely and really friendly.

“It would be amazing to be crowned a Galaxy Queen.

“I think it will be a challenging competition within my category, but knowing I’ve made some good friends and the experience alone is a reward.”
