Championship victory for Lola
THE Northern Athletics U13 and U15 Championship took place across Saturday and Sunday in Sheffield.
Lola Unsworth, one of our very youngest athletes stormed through her competition and deservingly won her first area Championship medal with a well-earned Bronze in the Under 13 Girls Shot at the North of England Championship alongside a seasons best performance in both the Long Jump and 60m!
Another athlete Tom Manton also persisted through his race and achieved first place in the 800 metres in a brilliant time of 2.07.32.
Finishing ahead by only 0.38th of a second, Tom Manton also ran a new personal best which was previously 2.09.5.
Ollie Cox took bronze in the Under 13 High Jump with a PB of 1.40m.
Seren Redfern also showed an outstanding performance in numerous events over the weekend.
Whilst competing in High Jump, Shot Put and the 800 Metre run, Seren showed perseverance and fantastic effort.
In the High jump Seren took silver for Stockport with 1.43 Metres.
Also, in the 800 metres Seren ran a brilliant time of 2.36.24 resulting in a bronze medal.
Jack Doodson also had a good day at the North of England Under 15 Championships, taking the High Jump Gold medal as well as a Long Jump Silver, the latter with a new personal best of 5.76 metre
The Greater Manchester Schools Championship took place in Heaton Park. This qualifiers race allows athletes to compete in the famous English Schools Cross-country Championships.
In order to qualify athletes must be within the top eight finishers.
Those with podium places were Ella Buckley with Silver and Niamh MacKintosh with Bronze in the Year 6 race; Freya Murdoch with Gold and Sophie Ellwood with Silver in the Year 7 Girls race and Finley Mayoh with Gold in the Year 9 Boys race.
Stockport Harriers’ Mollie Cooke and Ben Batho also qualified to run in the Championship.
