Hatters have kept principles

COUNTY SUPPORTERS COOPERATIVE COLUMN

IAN BROWN

IN my view County supporters can face the remainder of the season confidently!

County have been down in Division 6 for longer than any of us would have wanted, but there are real grounds for optimism that we might just exit Vanarama League North at the right end.

The prevailing view is probably that County will progress via the play offs, with Chorley having points and a game in hand, but this ignores the irresistible nature of the effort being made by, and the fine form of, James Gannon’s excellent team. There is every reason to think that if maintained, this form will see County home without the need for the hassle of the play-offs.

Few tears will be shed when we exit into the National Premier, but in some respects it will be sad to go as, despite the lowly status of the division we are currently in, many of the clubs that make up its numbers are pretty much ‘salt of the earth’ type organisations, steeped in the communities that they are based in.

Whilst being in the division, County have chosen to maintain their previous high standards where community involvement is concerned, and the community work that players and coaches at County involve themselves in is impressive as is the massive input the Club’s Community Foundation has locally. The Supporters Cooperative has weighed in four years in succession with the excellent Hatters Half Marathon, and more recently the Community Ticket Initiative.

In short, County, off the park, at all levels, have kept their feet on the ground and not forgotten their principles much in the same way that Gannon and his coaches, and players, go about business on the field of play. All reassuringly good stuff ss we head off up the football pyramid!
