Disappointment depends which way you view Guiseley result

-

SATURDAY’S result was a bit of a disappointment, drawing with a team in the bottom four isn’t the ideal.

But it all depends on whether you’re a glass half full person, or a glass half empty!

On one hand we dropped two points, on the other we pulled one point back on Chorley who lost at Southport.

Our long run of consecutive wins is over but our unbeaten run continues, we haven’t lost in the League since Blyth away back on the 1st of December!

Guiseley have been a bit of a boggy side for us, I think we’ve played them 6 times, losing three drawing three, we’ve never beaten them and Saturdays game just showed us why.

It was the proverbial game of two halves; we dominated the first while the Lions controlled the second. We started the better, Frank had a shot that was just turned wide in the very first minute and then Ash Palmer went even closer heading in from a free kick.

The travelling faithful went wild before realising the Liner had his flag raised, I didn’t think he was and neither did anyone around me but we’ll have to wait for Dan’s video to see if he was correct.

County, though, just got on with it, the pressure intensified and the corner count grew but we had to wait until the end of the first half to get the opening goal, Darren Stephenson on hand to turn the ball over the line from close range, it was no more than we deserved.

The second half was a complete contrast. The home side went physical, direct and long.

The ball was “hoofed” forward at every opportunity to Odejayi and Liburd, our new central defensive

partnership largely dealt with the threat but the pressure down our left was a continual threat and from there the equaliser came.

Their number 7 went passed Dux, went passed Warby and shot from a tight angle passed Hinchliffe. They hit the crossbar soon after and were unlucky not to be awarded a spot kick when the number 11 was booked for “simulation”, just one of many decisions the referee got wrong, among the others were the two horror tackles on Sam Walker, one of which resulted in a yellow when they both could have been red.

We’ve had a great run of results over the past couple of months knew we wouldn’t win them all but we’re still right in the mix Chorley have showed they’re vulnerable, Spennymoors pitch could be their undoing, who knows what the next two months will bring. Come on County.
