Abigail’s new UKA age record
STOCKPORT Harrier Abigail Pawlett continued her domination at the England Athletics Indoor U15 & U17 Combined Events Championships, setting not only a championship best performance score of 4,031 points, but also a UKA age group record, to win the women’s U17 pentathlon.
Abigail, 16, won four of the one-day competition’s five events to become the first athlete in the championship’s history to break 4,000 points, beating the previous best set by Pippa Earley’s 3952-point-score in 2017.
Congratulations are also due to Stockport Harriers Ross Millington and Jess Piasecki who both won Silver at the Inter County Cross Country Championships - both booking their place to Aarhus for the World Championships.
Closer to home, three Harriers took part in the Irwell Valley 20 Miler. Stephen Crook had a brilliant run and finished fourth overall and first in the V40 category with a time of 2:12:02.
Continuing her ever improving form, Nicola Lloyd was seventh female and first V40 female in 2:49: 17. Stephen Sharrocks also completed the course in 3:02:54.
Those who braved the horrendous whether at the annual Trafford 10k were rewarded with the fast times that the flat course is famous for.
In 10th place with a blistering time of 30:33 was Stockport’s Jack Morris.
Andrew Davies, Adam Thompson, Charlie Batho, Chris Bramwell, Andrew Hadfield and Paul Brooks also all finished well below that illustrious 40 minute marker.
Clara Jarvis was the first Stockport female over the line with a fantastic time of 40:50, landing her 29th female overall and third U20 female.
Ruth Murdoch and Alexis Dinsmoor also placed well within their age categories.
The Schools Cross Country races have also come to a close.
Overall 509 different children ran in a total of 1725 races.
There was representation from 50 different schools from Stockport, Tameside and High Peak.
Many of these children have never run cross country before and it is an eye-opening introduction to the sport.
Stockport Harriers were well-represented across all of the age groups. In the sixth and final Girls Year 3-4 race, Molly Hartley placed second, Beatrice Brooks was third, Orla Mackintosh was 14th and Esther Ahearn was 37th.
The Girls Year 5-6 race was dominated by Harriers with Niamh Mackin- tosh, Ella Buckley and Rosie Philbin placing first, second and third with Ellena Walker and Gracie Hunt close behind in fourth and fifth.
This was repeated in the Boys Year 5-6 race with Will Bailey, Issac Reed and Ben Sturgess grabbing the first three places.
